What I Use

I use a simple white plastic offset trowel made by Richeson. In my process, I spend a lot of time mixing paint so it’s nice to have a tool that feels good. I’ve tried many different more expensive options but have yet to find anything that works as well for me.

After about 6-12 months the neck may wear out and break, so I keep a couple on hand in case that happens.

FAQs

Can’t I JUST USE MY BRush TO MIX MY PAINTS?

I don’t recommend it for any serious mixing. You’ll end up jamming paint into the ferrule — the part where the bristles meet the brush — and it will be really hard to get that paint out. It will then dry and cause your brush to lose its shape.

CAN I USE A FORK?

Yes, but the trowel I use here will work better and is only a couple dollars.
