What I Use
After I’ve mixed and used my paints, I like to store them in a large plastic tub with a locking lid. I’ve found it incredibly useful to keep my paint mixes around just in case I need to touch something up later or want to rework an area. I can stack 6 or so plates in these tubs and a typical painting usually involves two tubs.
I separate each plate with a 9x12” rigid plastic sheet and at the bottom I have a thin wet sponge from Masterson.
FAQs
What about the Masterson Sta-Wet Palette Seal?
I own a few of these and used them for about a year, but I became annoyed that I couldn’t see inside of them. So I was either relabeling or constantly reopening them to see which paints were inside. I found it more convenient to use these transparent, taller and more affordable tubs to store multiple plates at once. I’m still using the Masterson sponge as you can see.
I’m HAVING TROUBLE FINDING THE RIGID PLASTIC SHEETS YOU USE?
The clear sheets i’m using here were repurposed from some ready-made frames that I had purchased. In a pinch you can just use sturdy cardboard, but another good option is White Corrugated Twinwall Plastic Sheet which is affordable and easy to cut to the right size. Link below.
What ABOUT JUST COVERING THE PLATES WITH plastic wrap?
This works ok, but then I had trouble with the plastic sagging and getting in contact with the piles of paint and making a big mess. Also, I wasn’t able to stack them so once I started using more plates, it was just a pain to have all these plates laying around and if anything fell on them … oof a mess
