Rule One: No blending paint on the panel. I wanted them to sit beside each other and interact.

Rule Two: Leave the red ground showing. I love how the broken nature of the strokes stand out and vibrate.

Rule Three: Add lots of texture. I really want you to see these brushstrokes.

I find it helpful to set rules like this for myself when I start a painting. It prevents me from wandering through different styles and techniques. Do you set any rules for yourself when you paint?

There’s a lake in Northwest Wisconsin that we like to stop at on Friday nights when we’re headed up north in the summertime. It’s fun to have the Fish Fry and a Spotted Cow while sitting on the patio looking out over the lake. I snap a lot of photos whenever I’m there and this painting was based on one of them. I hope you enjoy the results!

Prints up to 24" are professionally printed using archival inks on a special tightly-woven canvas that we then mount onto wood panels. No further framing is required, but can be if desired.

Print sizes 30" and larger are professionally printed on 100% cotton, acid-free, 300gsm, hot press archival paper. These sizes are unmounted and require further framing.
