White Coastal Cow

There are several experiments going on here, friends. First, I almost never paint a sky without clouds. Second, I want to get better at painting animals. Lastly, I wanted to work with a bleached out palette. All of these desires led to this painting of a white Brahman cow eating grass in the dry season along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The seasons in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica are quite different than North America. During the dry hot "summer", barely a drop of rain will fall, but a couple weeks before the rains return in April, some of the big trees bloom orange, red and white in anticipation. I think it's important to keep trying new things in painting. I certainly learned a thing or two. I hope you enjoy the results!
